blogging about daily life from Griffin, Georgia

surprise visit

A visit from Cecilia is always wonderful, but a few days ago she surprised us with a visit in the middle of the week! Matt was out of town on business, so Cec decided to come to Griffin to spend-the-night. We all loved having her here, but Brittain was definitely the most excited of us all. Brittain is in awe of her Aunt CC, and when Cecilia is around, it’s as if no one else exists.

The two of them were so busy, I could hardly keep up with them to be able to take any pictures. I did manage to get these shots. Cecilia brought pizza for all of us for dinner, and Brittain decided that she wanted to eat hers in her tent…and wanted Cecilia to eat in there with her. Of course Cecilia didn’t turn her down. They were in there for about 45 minutes eating pizza and drinking coke (yes, I let her drink the coke)…and loving life.

It’s crazy that this person has been such a huge part of Brittain’s life, yet she doesn’t appear on this blog very much. She’s the one person who seems to stay “behind-the-scenes” in Brittain’s life, even though she spends more time with her than most everyone in the whole family, aside from me.

I was hit hard recently with the news that Lindsey is moving. I knew the time was bound to come at some point, and I also knew that whenever it came, it would be way too soon. When she told me about her new job at The Cloister at Sea Island, I really didn’t get upset. Like I said, I knew it was coming.

The realization came when I began looking for another nanny to take her place. I realized that Lindsey had been part of Brittain’s life and taking care of her since she was six weeks old! It was then that I knew how difficult this change in all of our lives was going to be. Lindsey is the ultimate in a caretaker. Aside from the fact that Brittain adores her, I run out the door every morning knowing that she has everything under control. When she arrives, Brittain is more often than not, still in her pj’s and hasn’t eaten. When I arrive home, she is clothed, fed (breakfast and lunch) and has had her afternoon nap. Lindsey fills me in on the day and I am able to easily pick up where she left off.

We will miss Lindsey immensely and I know it will take all of us some time to adjust to her not being here everyday. I’m so very thankful for the time we’ve had with her. We’re all better for it. Thank you, Lindsey. We love you and we wish you the very best in your new endeavors!
