blogging about daily life from Griffin, Georgia

doing a whole lot of nothing…well, kinda

I am writing this blog post on a Friday. This Friday evening is going much like every other Friday does these days. I’m sitting here on my couch, sipping on a glass of wine and looking back at yet another week we made it through. I count the number of days Brittain went without brushing her teeth. I think of the number of mornings she ate a sucker as we drove to preschool because I had to resort to bribery to ensure that we would both be on time. I also think of my very late nights and tiring days, and the fact that my list of people I should respond to on Facebook or write an email back to keep falling further and further down my list. (You know who you are. Perhaps it will make you feel better to know that you’re not the only one that I’m neglecting. You’ll have to get in line because I have a whole list of dear friends that deserve much better than me.)

Matt, Jenny and Ava Parker came over for a visit a few weeks ago. We keep saying we’re going to get together more often and then life gets in the way and we suddenly find ourselves not having seen each other for a few months. Whenever we do finally plan a date, it’s always so much fun. And the girls are getting better with each other. You will see from the pictures I chose to post that Ava is still strong as an ox and not afraid of anything. Brittain, on the other hand…well, she’s exactly the opposite. Things are getting better with the two of them, though. I don’t recall any major meltdowns. I think there were actually a couple of moments where they were both enjoying each others company.

Jenny and I managed to get a few words in…and the conversation was interesting. Jenny’s working a full-time job now and even doing some other things on the side to earn some extra money. They’re working toward building a house, eliminating debt, etc. As she was talking about this stuff I suddenly started feeling like, “wait a minute…what am I doing?” Don’t get me wrong. We have goals we’re working toward, but when I sit on my couch on a Friday night and look back at my week, I have a difficult time figuring out what I did that was really worth something. But I don’t understand! I’m constantly busy. I average 4 or 5 hours of sleep at night. During the day I never actually sit down. So, what do I have to show for it? Unfortunately, I don’t have an answer for this right now, so if any of you can shed some light, feel free!

There is one thing I have in my back pocket…I mentioned in passing in a previous post about photography. I’ve really gotten into it lately. Even started doing some engagement pictures. I’m shooting my first wedding this summer, and I have a couple of families that I’m shooting some for. So, hey, if you’re interested in having some pictures done of you, your family, or anyone else you know, give me a call. (I’ll cut you a deal. :-)) Hopefully this will result in some actual income, instead of just more time spent with nothing to show for it.

Enough about me…how about some pictures of my pride and joy, that little girl who I live for each day, and why I do what I do. It’s all about her. She’s gotten cuter, y’all. Cuter and sweeter. The sweetest personality you’ve ever seen in your life. She brightens everyone’s day and at the end of my day…at the end of my week, I really don’t so much feel like my time was wasted. What better way to spend my time than raising her?

Turns out? I’m pretty pleased with how I spend my days. I’m a Mommy (and most days I think I’m a pretty good one.) So, you know what? I’m good with that.
