back to the beach

We’ve just returned from our first trip to visit Aunt CC and Uncle Matthew at their new home in Jacksonville, Florida, and boy, did we have a blast! Deciding to make the trip down during the day (instead of at night as we did on our last beach trip), was an unexpected pleasant ride with Brittain to and from. She was so content that Dan and I didn’t even mind that we had to listen to the same Max & Ruby DVD for 10 hours.

The weekend was jam-packed as soon as we hit the door on Friday evening. Cecilia and Matt are unbelievable hosts. Every meal was planned out and they had even gone to the store to purchase all of Brittain’s “essentials” so we wouldn’t have to take time to do that once we arrived. We drank, we ate (including plenty of rice krispy treats and brownies), we tanned, and we laughed more than I have in a very, very long time.

Brittain loved her “big sandbox” yet again, but also enjoyed the beautiful pool at Matt and Cec’s condo. It was a nice alternative when we didn’t want to worry about the sand sticking to EVERYTHING.

As usual, Brittain and Cecilia were inseparable the entire time we were there. I was concerned about leaving because I was sure that Brittain would get upset. Truth be told, I was concerned that we would ALL get upset. Fortunately, Cecilia was also worried about this so she and I decided that our goodbyes would be short and sweet. No tears, no nothing. In fact, we decided that Matt and Cecilia wouldn’t even walk us out. When Dan finished loading the car, we said, “Ok, see you later” and that was it. It worked because no tears were shed. And thank goodness for that because I couldn’t have handled it.
