United Way

Brittain and I made a much overdue trip to Macon to visit everyone at United Way (where I used to work). It was wonderful seeing everyone and Brittain especially enjoyed finally being able to put faces with all the names.

Judy Quinlan takes time out of her busy campaign schedule to begin the baby holding. Judy also made sure Brittain stays fashionable with a darling dress and winter coat. Thanks, Judy!

Tammie Collins joins us for a quick photo opportunity:

Michael Williams was next on the list to spend time with Baby Brittain. Brittain learns that she likes bald heads besides her Daddy’s:

Ashlee Gowder takes over feeding duties:

Melissa takes over to burp:

Brittain enjoyed being babysat by Tammie. Apparently, she learned a whole lot about typing emails with one hand and how to work while still holding a baby:

Janis Hall was full of tricks that made Brittain laugh. She figured out Janis was MUCH more interesting than her mommy :-):

2 month well-baby checkup

Category: Personal | Comments (0) | Valerie @ September 14th, 2006

I came close to titling this post “Mommy’s rough day”, but I figure there will be many of those and I need to be able to distinguish one from the other. So, I guess this title will suffice. Thursday is Great Aunt Susan’s day to keep Brittain. It turned out that today was also Brittain’s 2 month checkup at the doctor. The appointment time fell during the 4 hours that I work so I almost decided not to attend the appointment and just let Aunt Susan take her. I trust her completely and there was nothing wrong with Brittain. But, the more I thought about it, I decided that it might be best if I attended, if only to be able to answer questions someone else might not know.

Little did I know what was in store for me…her first immunization shots. Yes, I said it. Two nurses were required to administer these shots, one to hold her arms down and the other to actually give her the shots. I stepped away from the table when they gave them to her. In fact, I think I blacked out briefly as soon as I heard her pitiful cry. Aunt Susan was strong enough to stand by her, but she didn’t make it any better for me. The shots only lasted about 45 seconds, but during that time Aunt Susan turned to me at least 30 times and made this “Awwwwww…” face. As if that was going to make me feel any better. Fortunately, it was over very quickly. Brittain was immediately fine. She stopped crying as soon as the shots were over. Aunt Susan and I, on the other hand, will never fully recover.

I have to mention how blessed we are to have such a healthy baby. Brittain weighed in at 12 lbs. 3.5 oz. and had grown 3 inches since her birth. Her weight is in the 90th percentile and her height in the 50th. Let’s hope both of these percentiles change over time! 🙂

After a long, hard day at work, Daddy loves spending time with his favorite girl. Well, ONE of his favorite girls. 🙂

Enjoying Daddy reading a story, but making sure Mommy remains in view:
